The Invitation I Declined

September 21, 2026•1 min read

“Not every ‘yes’ builds sustainability. Some quietly erode it.”

I once declined an opportunity that looked impressive.

It would have meant travel, visibility, expansion.

It also would have meant missing three small local sessions I had already committed to.

I sat at my kitchen table longer than necessary, staring at the email.

In the end, I chose the smaller rooms.

Not because I was afraid.

But because I was tired of proving scale.

Staying connected without overextending means disappointing the version of you that craves more.

It also means protecting the version of you that wants to stay.

Not every “yes” builds sustainability.

Some quietly erode it.
